History:
Membrane filtration as a technology was introduced in the late 1950's. Alfa laval nakskov has been in the business for almost as many years and has one of the longest track records in the industry. Due to continuous research and development we are today among the world's leading manufacturers of advanced liquid separation solutions, with a premium on system reliability and technical assistance.

Dds filtration
In 1965, alfa laval nakskov was established under the name of dds filtration and became one of the pioneers within the area of cross-flow membrane separation. Dds filtration was the membrane development and production facility of de danske sukkerfabrikker a/S, later part of danisco a/S. The first plant was sold in 1970 and today more than 2,000 membrane filtration systems have been installed and commissioned all over the world. Through the development of a great variety of flat sheet membranes as well as the unique plate & frame system, dds filtration gained worldwide recognition within the industry.

Dow liquid separation systems
Dds filtration were acquired by the dow chemical company in 1989 and became part of dow liquid separation systems. The company operated as the European membrane and membrane filtration facility and expanded the range of available filtration and separation technologies to include ion exchange resins and gas separation. In this period the knowledge within engineering and process development was extended through the sharing of experience on technologically challenging issues.

Danish separation systems as
Due to a change in strategy, the dow chemical company divested the business in nakskov in 1997. A danish venture company and a number of key employees took over the activities and formed the company danish separation systems as (dss).

Dss expanded in 2000 when dss silkeborg as was established to focus on activities within the dairy industry.

Alfa laval
In september 2002 alfa laval acquired dss. The product centre membranes was established as part of the process technology division. Dss silkeborg were not part of the acquisition and are today operating as an independent company, but with the exclusive rights to deliver alfa laval membrane products to the global dairy industry.
